vocaroo

final paper

Well, almost done the final paper, Zotero is a really great tool once you get it all figured out (which I haven't totally done yet). I will repeat my comment from class the other day, I really feel like this course should be highly recommended for all students, but especially those in the Graduate/Masters program. I know it would have saved me a lot of time and grief in the last couple of years. I do not have my own classroom and work mostly with individual students (mostly doing assessments this time of year!). Therefore, I haven't had a chance to try many of these applications with students. However, I am in the same school as Shelley and her students are using many of the things we have talked about in class and quite a few that we haven't talked about. So, I have seen them in action and I am always impressed with how quickly children catch on, what a great job they do, and how engaged they are when they are using technology. I'm hoping that my students will get some use out of them next year. Hope everyone has a great summer!

Just thought I would put up a link to an interesting website, www.allkindsofminds.org
It is a good resource for information of learning styles.

Struggling Readers

Struggling Readers

Stephen's Web

Checking out Stephen's Web, interesting resource. I really like the following statement from his blog "The challenge for educators across the nation has become how to design and develop a teacher corps and a school structure that allows for a school that operates in a completely different manner than the classrooms we experienced in out own education" - Sammon 2000,2

jing attempt number 6

jing

Okay...I have recorded my Jing presentation...kind of lame, but now I can't get it onto my blog. Do I copy it into a gadget or copy it as a post? Tried both but the link doesn't seem to work. Just wondering what I am doing wrong. Later

ebooks

I have been experimenting with downloading some ebooks (free of course, it's the teacher coming out in me). I still like to have a physical copy, old fashioned I guess, but I know that my kids have downloaded some onto their ipods and they love it. No more lugging around a big bag full of books for those long car rides!

embedding

I think I have the hang of embedding objects into my blog...pictures anyway. I have managed to embed my mindmeister map, a comic strip, and a new youtube video. Next is a podcast and a list of my favorite sites which I am going to work on right now.

MindMeister embed

Mindmeister

I managed to start a mindmap and I think that I invited all in the group to edit and add to it. Haven't figured out how to embed it on my blog, still working on that. I can see where students would really enjoy using this. Would be very beneficial to those visual learners.

Zotero

Zotero is certainly a handy little tool. I am going to pass this on to the high school teachers at my school. I'm not sure that most students are ready for it. However, for those students who are planning to attend University, where they will be expected to research and write papers, it could prove very useful. I want to explore it further as I continue to research my final paper to find out all of the things it can help me do.

Twitter

Well...I've set up my twitter account and now am trying to make sure I am following everyone in the class. Have been checking out Twitter for Teachers and joining the appropriate lists. This hasn't been as easy as I anticipated so think I might be doing something wrong. Going to check it out again right now.

Diigo and Zotero

I am trying to check the new sites that we were introduced to us last class. It might be a while before I can keep all of this info straight so I hope everyone will be patient. Subscribed to Diigo today so just going to spend some time looking at all of it's different features.

google reader

As a management tool I think that Google Reader will be a great time saver. When I think of the amount of time I have spent "surfing" my favorite sites looking for new information! I have been busy cutting and pasting the blog addresses into reader. My next mission...Zotero!

Google documents

Ok, I love google documents already. Waldorph and I have been trying to plan a meeting agenda from different locations. This has saved us a lot of time and more than a few phone calls. I am anxious to see what else it will do!

dimdim and google docs

Two more very useful tools! I think that I will make a lot of use of google docs. Although I have merely scratched the surface, it appears to be a relatively user friendly instrument. I appreciate the ease and convenience of sharing my papers and other documents with friends to edit and provide suggestions.

Dimdim was very easy to access. I think that young students especially would enjoy using the whiteboard option. It will be interesting to explore its other uses.

Gotta Keep Reading - Ocoee Middle School

Wow... a lot of information to absorb! I am relatively new to most of this "tech talk" so everyone will have to bear with me. I am busy trying to think of ways to incorporate all of my potential knowledge into my current instructional focus, primary reading intervention and high school resource. I am considering Using ICT to Enhance a Differentiated Reading Program as a focus for my final paper. Hopefully, once I learn how to use ICT, I will be able to help my struggling readers use it to their benefit.
Skype was a new experience for me and I was pleasantly surprised to see how user friendly it is. My sons and I will be able to Skype with my parents this winter while they vacation/live in Arizona.
I am quickly learning that reading about technology is not the way to learn to use technology...I just need to get in there and DO IT!
